I Should Know Better - LOL

I know better than to just judge an item by the photograph - but I'm human too. I've gotten to the age where I need reading glasses. I'm not used to squinting to read the fine print. So, when I buy I rely a lot on the photograph - which is what I've been telling you guys - that's what buyers do!!!!!

So, the other day I was browsing the clothing section on eBay (I've been working with a client who is setting up a clothing store). And saw the coat above.

I knew it was a badly exposed photo - but assumed the color was gray. On my monitor it looks like a washed out gray, not washed out brown. I've been looking for a light gray jacket. So, I bid.

Imagine my disappointment when it arrived, I opened the box and it turned out to be a (what Seattle folks refer to as) metro brown jacket.

To be fair the seller didn't do anything wrong when I went back to look at the auction - there it was stated clear as can be - the facts: Brown Polyester Jacket. She just took a lousy photo of the item - hopefully someday she'll read a copy of Easy Auction Photography!
Another tool useful for sellers is the online color chart - even I did read that it was a brown jacket, I might have bid if it was the correct color brown. The Online Color Chart is like a paint chip chart that buyers and sellers can reference to match colors. A great tool when it comes to selling clothes!

I'm sure if she does either of these she'll have happy customers and she'll start seeing higher final values and repeat business.

In her description the Seller states she'll take the item back if it's not as described - but it's really not her fault that I didn't read - and it's too much of a hassle to return it to her.

This is one of those bad buyer experiences that often cause customers go elsewhere, outside of eBay to buy.
I'm a seasoned eBayer, so I understand that I'm responsible for reading before hitting the bid button - but most buyers are not. One experience like this and they don't return.

Are you contributing to bad buyer experience because you aren't taking the best picture possible?
